steve--
there are no absolutes. nothing is ever settled to a certainty, i think the bells know this.
as for AT&T, congress, et al. it really doesnt matter. the constitution will still be the constitution whether AT&T and congress like it or not.
you think the bells want to dictate. i disagree or they wouldnt even be talking about this stuff, or announcing ANY kind of commercial deployments.
yes, RADSL isnt perfect but what it is? at any rate, it ensures that those far from the DLC or CO will still get some kind of service, priced appropriately i am sure.
as for the URLs, i dont have the time. i am sure bill can enlighten you. for starters though, check out BAs page and a few of the other RBOCs. the point is that the doomsayers you have quoted repeatedly are WRONG. hal ( i think it was him) made a very good point when he posted a quote from someone saying that any conjecture on what the bells were doing was just that....CONJECTURE. also, there are others on this thread who have posted very detailed comments about these issues to you, correcting you on your information. are you telling me that you remember none of those posts?
the RBOCs arent going to wait for equipment form the others when they have what they need now. its that simple. even if they dont use WSTl equipment, there is always ALA.
the vaporware out of the ones you listed has been thick, but so far all i have seen is a whitepaper from 3COM and CDSL from nortel/rockwell/netspeed. to be honest, i am not exactly shaking in my boots. 3COM is great at marketing to the consumer, but that is all changing. people arent buying USR modems anymore because they can buy a good cheap taiwanese modem that does as good a job.
as for ALA, well i would expect them to get a significant portion of the contracts, like SBC USW (along with PAIR), Ameritech and pacbell. bell south i dont know and BA and GTE go to WSTL (i mean come on, the only GTE unit that isnt using us is the ILEC).
the other have some really great ISP announcements based on the 56k technology.
basically our point of contention is that you think the RBOCs wont deploy because there is no solid answer to the bundling issues and that WSTL itself is toast because of all the horrible competition out there. i disagree. they wont wait because they cant. its just like the mergers after the telecom act passed. they move quick when they need to. just wait and see.
CSCO and 3COM have bigger things to worry about than the xDSL market.
good luck to all, trey |
