A freezer full of memories--That's beautiful, Paul!!! We are laughing, I know, and it is funny and our party will be entertaining as usual, because that's what we do here at Rambi-play. But there are often sweet truths here. In my laundry room are jelly jars, long empty, still labelled in my mother's hand. When I think about washing the labels away, I can't do it. So they sit, unused, and when I hold one, I see her in the kitchen, humming as she always did while she cooked, and boiling the jars and lids for that year's batch, while I wander through to practice piano and hope I'll be offered a taste on the way. And for a brief, sunny moment, she lives for me again. |
