I got loads of settlement checks back from the dotcom crash in 2000/1. Enron and Worldcom were around then as well.

I doesn't seem that rare, or maybe it's just common in the investing swamps where I often dwell :-)

Funny thing is you lose $6,000, get pissed off, but that's the breaks. And then, after you've moved on, 5 years later a check for $170 shows up in the mail, and it's a nice emotional boost even though it's a pittance compared to what you lost. Anytime an unexpected check shows up in the mail, that's fine with me!
