I followed that story, but it is not a story liberals are comfortable talking about. When Obama won he had the best group of computer geeks ever, to run his ground game. But after his election when he went from an outside game to an inside game, he disbanded that group. I always felt it was because he didn't want them nipping at his heels when he made the right hand turn. They were mostly Bernie type liberals.
And then Obama himself had no interest in being head of the Democratic Party. That is according to Chuck Todd's book on Obama. The outside inside game is according to Richard Wolf's book on Obama. So when 2010 (the year for gerrymandering) came around, you had three negative things going on.
First you had the disillusionment that Obama was not going to give us change we could believe in. So the kids that were so brilliant at getting Obama elected, were depressed and did not get involved as much in the 2010 election when gerrymandering was such a big deal, plus he had disbanded them.
If Obama had held that group together and sent them forth to help the states in 2010, this would be a whole different ball game now.
And then for the next six years it was a situation of Obama just being a steward, more or less and everybody else just sort of sitting back puzzled by his behavior, but also not wanting to criticize the first African-American president.
We spent 8 years in stasis.
That is how we got here.

How did we get here? Ok, I know, gerrymandering and other subversions of a democratic republic. I guess the better question is how did we let them get here? Hillary, despite her weaknesses, won the popular vote. Yet, they'll own all branches of government.
How did WE let that happen? It's on us, not them. |
