We liberals have only ourselves to blame for the present state of affairs. We are guilty of one cardinal sin and one tactical sin. Thomas Frank laid it out perfectly in his book:" Listen liberals". He likened the last eight years to what happened under JFK and LBJ and the best and the brightest as put forth in David Halberstams book . We became the elite and forgot the worker and common person. We forgot our history: we forgot the lesson of Vietnam, we forgot the lesson of Nader and splitting the vote with a third-party and we forgot the lesson about the need to fight the Republicans on gerrymandering. The second has to do with how we fight the Republicans. When Obama was first elected, he had unbelievable power and the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress. That was the time when we should have attacked the Republicans with a full frontal assault, we were powerful. But Obama did just the opposite, he presented his throat and the pubs sunk their teeth into it. The Republicans attacked us. They openly declared their primary goal was to make Obama a one term president. But Obama and the Democrats did not attack. Obama started capitulating the minute he was elected. Time after time, he would smooth things over with Republicans and assuage our fears. He even extended the crazy Bush tax cuts for a year because Republicans intimidated him with threatening to not raise the debt ceiling. Obama wanted no trouble as his first order of business. He was not going to fight. If you remember, the first body to take Obama to task was the Congressional Black Caucus after he extended the Bush tax cuts out of fear of them not raising the debt ceiling. Liberals in general allowed themselves to be lulled into a false sense of complacency for eight years while the Republicans destroyed the democratic party.. Obama kept talking about no red America and no blue America only the United States of America. So while red America was doing everything in their poweer to get a death grip on our throat, we were simply laying our head back so they could get a good grip. Well they've have a good grip now and will now go on to finishing the job. Now that they have successfully killed the Democratic Party, they can lay waste to the country.
