I was a child of the 60s, and blind conformity was certainly one of the main issues we fought against. We saw so much of it as blind conforming primitive behavior which needed to be replaced with modern thinking.

We also believed people had the right to manifest their own destiny and seek self-actualization regardless of cultural dogma.

But I have also thought about conformity hard all my life as a simple manifestation of our-hard wired brain. I think it is a lot stronger than people realize, because we do it unconsciously and cannot see it. I have been fighting it all my life because it leads to mindlessness.

And to be honest I've always been repulsed by it, because to me it represents people not thinking for themselves. If you want to see how powerful that is just look at all the guys in the world sporting half beards. Once that started it seems like every guy in the world felt the need to do it, even men with horribly ugly beards who were also smart as hell-lol.

And I believe women actually prefer clean-shaven lean, clean men, over men with beards or even a lot fo muscels. So it's not even productive in terms of hooking up with a gal, it is more a matter of males trying to out macho other males at the animal level. . In any event it is the perfect metaphor for how blindly we all go through life without knowing it.
