>>>The question I would like to see raised on this thread rather than playing the political game of putting down one party over another, is to try to figure out what went wrong. <<<
You made a good list of things that have been bad for the Dems.
However, nothing went wrong in the normative sense. We are witnessing the outcome of what the voting body has naturally become. People seem surprised to see that their party is a reflection of what they, as essential partisans have habitually become, and consequently how the party gets identified and in a major way how it functions.
Aristotle: If you want to become something, act as if that is what you already were ... then it will become natural to you.
You want courage, behave courageously. There is nothing courageous on the part of a leftist to bash Trump or the Republicans. Far from being courageous, it is just an expression of frustration that is already taken for granted, more often viewed as pettiness than empowering. It would be far more effective to engage in self examination.
You want trust, behave as a trustworthy person. Tell the truth, admit to foibles or character flaws, allow valid criticism to stand, self correct when you realize your own mistake, don't spin facts, above all avoid hyperbole. Represent issues with honor and integrity. |
