Its the government. Its something we vote for not us. Parts of it we don't vote for (positions that are apointed, or civil service employees are also part of the government. But its not them either, its an organization and a process, and a collection of rules, people, properties. It isn't me an I'm not it.
We influence it, but we influence a lot of other things that we aren't and that aren't us, a lot more. People will have relationships with for example. Or even businesses.
And when was there ever liberty without a well functioning government-lol?
Your not really making a coherent relevant point. Perhaps your conflating well functioning with "large and powerful" and intrusive.
For that matter the government doesn't actually have to function very well for their to be liberty. I'd like a very limited government to do what it does do well, so you have both liberty and a well functioning government but you can have either without the other, or both, or neither.
And Trump is a dangerous authoritarian who is going to kick our asses.
I'm not sure how that's relevant to this conversation at all. What does "government is not us" have to do with Trump? Its like your answering a yes no question with "orange".
For that matter as I've repeatedly stated I'm not a fan of Trumps. But OTOH he likely isn't as bad as you think he is, and if he is he will still be somewhat limited in how much he can "kick all our assess", he wasn't elected to the office of dictator. |
