I was not in the slightest trying to imply the movies you are touting are tinged with porn. I am merely reacting to your overly rosy portrayal of the South Korean movie industry and of South Korean society. There are some real gems, but most South Korean productions are sleazy schlock (something true around the world, of course).

Japan, China, and South Korean society are amongf the most xenophobic nations on earth, sometimes mixed with an inferiority complex towards the US. Alas, sending their kids abroad to be educated has made little dent in this, but of course it is only the elite that can afford that anyway.

I also see despicable attitudes towards women, particularly in Japan and worst of all in South Korea. Seriously, check the stats; the situation of women in general in South Korea is abysmal, and there is no sign of it changing.

All three countries also have terrible environmental records. The Japanese in general prefer nature to be ordered and controlled, i.e. not natural, the Koreans are indifferent to it, and of course China is using the world as a combined garbage can and ashtray in the way we in Canada and the US used to, and still do to some extent

Every society has strengths and weaknesses, but I see little in the countries worthy of emulation.

What is going to get really interesting is when the demographics caused by the One Child policy in China come to fruition. There is no way the future number of workers in China will be able to support the grey wave entering old age, and I wouldn't be surprised to see these tensions engender a new wave of fascism and war in the Middle Kingdom.

(And I haven't even mentioned the way China treats the Tibetans and other minorities.)
