Thank you for this detailed response. It was informative, and I was most surprised to learn that apparently NC has been shifting to the left in terms of state government. This surprised me because during the same time period, the shifts at the state level have been to the right.

According to the Atlantic article, combjelly posted, NC had 17 days of early voting before the days were cut. To me that seems excessive. The population of NC isn't huge.

At the same time, it sounds like there were factions of the GOP there that needed to be relieved of office.
