>> Takes them on from where? Says who?
Rights inure to being a person in this world. Who says, where they come from, I have no idea. But they do exist, whether they come from parenthood, morals, government, one or more gods, I can't say.
No, the claim isn't from thin air. Are you denying that rights exist at all? Regardless of where they come from? Or is there just borders among the various governing bodies?
I don't know. But at some point, a person has a right to try to survive. I do know that. And that point is reached sooner by a baby today FOR ME than it was 20 years ago. And I fully expect that progress to continue. That individual's right to try to survive does supersede any other individual's right to be fully equipped to deal with having a child, in my opinion.
I think the time for unbridled pro-choice, at least in my view, is past. There are circumstances where it may be the best thing, but those times are rapidly becoming an artifact of another era.
I'm going to tell you that I'm friends with some parents who recently found a pregnancy test kit in the bedroom of their 15 year old girl. I'm not saying you have to slam the door on this situation, but there is a difference between a 15 year old and a 20 year old. Please don't try to pin me down on it. They're hard decisions and I have plenty of others to deal with. But people who have to make them will do so.
Maybe it feels like a bullshit answer to you but I do think rights accrue to fetuses before they're born sometimes. I'm not a religious person, but I do have some human characteristics. |
