There is something I forgot to address in my answer to your post. The nicotine gum I am referring to is Nicorette and has been available only since 1984. Up until last year, it was a prescription item, as were the nicotine patches, at which time both became available on an over-the-counter basis.

There are several brands of nicotine patches, but to my knowledge Nicorette is the only brand of nicotine gum. Whatever nicotine gum you used that long ago could not have been Nicorette.
