Tom Siebel paying for a Monday Night Football and a Rose Bowl commercial (among others) is a likely sign of another great quarter at Siebel. Just like Q3 when they ran all the newspaper adds (like the big Wall Street Journal add), Tom has defined a new way to pre-announce good results. It looks like they broke the bank and need to spend to try to keep their operating margins at a sustainable level.

On another note, the much anticipated Microsoft SFA deal is supposedly really heating up. SAP is reportedly putting on the full-court press but the current handicapping consensus has Siebel as a touchdown favorite. Vantive's SFA is tightly tied to Microsoft Outlook so they will at least get a look. Any MSFT employees want to let on if any sales related people at MSFT actually use Microsoft Outlook. RFP's supposedly are going out this month (January).

BTW, I was very disappointed to hear Tom speak for 30 seconds on a commercial and not say the word "HUGE" even once. Maybe they can run an add at the end of March (during the NCAA basketball tournament title game?) with Tom & Jerry Seinfeld talking about 100% customer satisfaction. That would be HUGE.

Siebel presents at a Morgan Stanley conference on Tuesday January 6 (at 1:30 Arizona time), while SAP and SCOP are on Monday after the market closes.
