>>That same theme has been discussed on this thread. Both qdog and Taxi mused about this a couple months ago only to be set upon by the nits.
According to a certain Kasakhstan geologist, the Soviet data on this concession sat in a lost file cabinet for years--although he stated that he was well aware of the real truth concerning this area.
He also mentioned that with the break up of the SovU, money to continue evaluation of the pontential fields "dried" up and along with the discovery of a nearby field with producing wells, interest in aipn's holding dropped and the existing wells were abandoned/capped. I find it very suspicious that the Kasakhstans would so easily leave a well(s) that was/were a clear winner.<<

As I recall, It was a Soviet Union geologist (Kazakstan became a country at a later date--1991) working for the Energy Department, who knew about the siesmic records taken, and was involved in the drilling and capping of the well. At the time the well was drilled, the Soviets discovered oil at a more accessible location where the oil could be refined and marketed more conveniently. The (soon to be Kazak) well was capped for the time being. Remember, this area was used for military maneuvers and target practice and considered a virtual wasteland. It was in bad shape environmentally and needed to be cleaned up.
Anyway, the Soviet geologist became a citizen when Kazakstan became independent. He later became part of the Kazakstan company that now has an interest in the concession partly belonging to aipn.
I believe he has knowledge of what appears to be there and has chosen to be a part of this concession.
Why be suspicious when this time was a transition period for the new country of Kazakstan and they had no resources for developing and marketing the oil.

>> Another great question is this:If the Kasak gov did in fact think aipn's area had such tremendous potential. why would they hand over drilling/exploratory/PA rights for such a song? And what's to stop them from axing any contracts with aipn if large oil quantities are indeed found?
Remember Faris B? He made numerous attempts to characterize the Kasak gov as underhanded and corrupt. He repeatedly used this as a bullish sign for aipn. There was all that talk about MSUP having high ranking gov officials sitting on shares and therefore having a vested interest in aipn's success.
Wouldn't their interest be better served if they just nixed aipn out once oil is found in large quantities? I mean supposedly they're corrupt. It is this type of thinking from certain aipn bulls that really needs to be examined. Greg<<

I don't think those were the exact words Faris B. used. I look at it this way. These are government officials who are going to be rewarded for what they have done for their country. We have here in the United States politicians who have voted themselves up to and over $100,000 per year pensions and have taken high-paying jobs with Corporations when they left office. Is this their reward for serving our country or are they underhanded and corrupt?

What I have stated here is from memory going back a few months so don't know how accurate it is but I felt your post was another example of putting a negative slant to the above mentioned situation.

Also, Kazakstan is dealing with many countries and companies and is not about to reneg on a contract. Their honor is at stake and they are not about to start breaking contracts.

No big deal Greg, just thought I would give you my opinion. I respect your right to an opinion and you do say some good things. Hmmm....are you holden any aipn shares Greg? Just kidding.

P.S. Rumor has it on the Yahoo board that China is about to start accumulating aipn shares. Might be worth watching. Remember, its only a rumor.
