Nice picture! Original stone work and old but artistic wood fences are favorite art works of ours.
Here we sit with 10-12 inches of fresh snow. Temp is 7 degrees outside. Won't get above freezing till late Wed. Our road does not get plowed, but we have one 4x4, so we can get out if needed.
I cut the well water off to the garden stand pipe and drained the pipe late yesterday...due to temps now under 10 degrees.
Installed a "Simple Pump" on the well, so we always have easy access to water in any weather or electrical condition.
We have guns, ammo and lots of fishing gear. And about 2 years of freeze dried, home canned and frozen food. Also at least 10 cords of firewood cut and split for the buck stove and 6 more trees cut down a few months ago, already cut in lengths available to split, and plenty of hand tools to do that splitting.
We keep supplies and tools divided between 2 buildings so one fire can't wipe it all out.
Topped off auto gas before the storm and have 15 more gallons in jerry cans for tillers, saws, etc... Also have at least one firearm with ammo in each car. We both have concealed carry permits...so no issues with that.
Have 100 days of military MREs, and well over one year of other freeze-dried and dehydrated dried food on hand (mostly beans and rice, and pasta and dried veggies and fruit.)...and of course plenty of garden seeds.
Dinner discussion last night was on getting another small motor home (we sold our old 26' Born Free) and a new, bigger and towable, enclosed trailer for hauling our supplies if we have to leave, which we would only do under intense duress.
We have been at it for going on 8 years...but are now very comfortable in our cabin tucked away in a hardwood forest, on 5 acres, surrounded by govt land, on a somewhat remote lake, with a hand pump-able well, and a fresh stream near the cabin.
We also have a small glass hot house. In a few weeks we will be starting spring vegetables. Almost forgot, we still have 6 bushels of sweet potatoes stored in a cool but not too cold room, and no visitor leaves here without some.
It has been a lot of fun putting all this together. |
