I think some people are responding to the wrong technical questions

There seem to be two criticisms of Novell related to TCP/IP and IPX.

One school has it that because IPX to IP translation has to be performed between client and server "some performance is lost" and an all IP network would be "better". I'm not sure this is true but there appear to be reasons for companies to reject IPX for IP. Novell has said that IPX to IP translation provides valuable firewall protection.

Once again I do not pretend to any technical knowledge on this point and would love to be set straight on the issues.

The second school includes companies like Netscape which have put their web server products on every NOS except Novell claiming something about Novell not supporting "open systems".

I think it is critical that Netscape put its web server on Novell's NOS, from a marketing standpoint, for both companies. Ultimately if NT goes in as the default small system intranet box both Netscape an Novell lose.

However once again I do not know whether Netscape has simply made a bad marketing decision, in not working out with Novell some basis for putting their server on the Novell NOS, or whether there are major technical incompatibilities or reasons.

Please enlighten me.
