Well I have two vehicles with Automatic all wheel drive. When conditions are bad I use the override button... if there was no override button I would not buy the vehicle (OK full time like Subaru is OK) ... Too many times I have felt the AWD kick in on auto... too late :))

Yes they will get better and I certainly agree with your other points..
