Life expectancy is not a measure of health care system performance.

We the most expensive place in the world to purchase health care for multiple reasons

a) It is the best in the world for more medical problems than anyplace else.

b) Our country is willing to pay a lot for health care because we pretty much have the best of everything else as well.

c) In 1965 government took over 1/2 of our health care system leaving the other half a dysfunctional market economy in which all price inflation in the system flowed to 1/2 of the system. This resulted in convoluted growth in pricing in the private portion of the system.

There are other factors. But as long as our government is so deeply involved in health care it i going to be expensive.
