I'm usually pretty good at reading English, but I did need a little help with this: "After 7 good years in HNL working for Pan Am (she) and then again 10 years in San Diego (both of us, half time)." Can you see how the use of "again" makes it seem like it was another 10 years with Pan Am? No big deal. I still don't understand how Obama, in 2008, could reach back and destroy an American Dream from the 70's or 80's. Are you sure it wasn't Reagan that did that to your dream? He did that to a lot of others when the trickle never came down to the workers.
