There are 30-some (37?) states with laws on the books which make it so that the medical profession does not have to show you this. In the few instances where a clinic has done like an autoshop, with a firm price quote and guarantee for a specific service or procedure, the response of the public has been overwhelming. Those laws are to prevent price discovery.

Imaging how many fewer people would get MRSA while hospitalized if the HOSPITAL covered the cost of the infection and your recovery, via a guarantee of service and cost?

Nothing beats price discovery and a set price to cause efficiency to improve dramatically. Imagine if you bought a car, and they said the full price will only be known after a month or two? And if something goes wrong, like a defective transmission, the price might double or triple?
When I take my car in for service they are required to show me what it costs before the works starts. Why doesn't healthcare work that way?
