You actually had the be careful of polar bears when you went out and walked around. The thing that most impressed me was that the Arctic Ocean up there is crystal clear, and the beaches have no life on them at all. No seaweed, no animals of any kind that I could find. It is almost sterile, although with global warming there's going to be a lot more phytoplankton and zooplankton going forward. More sunlight.

Looks like they're getting ready to open that up to drilling immediately. There's supposed to be just a tremendous amount of oil up there. So Alaska should be in good shape for the next hundred years. We may see people coming here simply looking for sanctuary i.e. social systems intact.
