Right now we're running pretty close to Doomsday too. <<The NATO side played the scenario of what would happen if the Soviets attacked -- while the Soviets watched closely how THEIR own nightmare scenario was becoming reality, and were certain that NATO is preparing a nuclear strike. Bottom line - the world almost stumbled into an Armageddon - because of sheer stupidity and paranoia. It may take a lot less than we think. 1983 could have been the last year of all of ours lives, and for no good reason. >> The threats from the USA are quite large scale with many paranoid people like Clinton actually saying Putin is like Hitler. The anti-Hitlerites are quite foaming at the mouth mad from what I see - the same loons who believed there were WMDs which turned out to be a very large cost with not much in the way of benefits. Right now there is carnage in Mosul as ISIS and jihadists are defeated - the Domino Theory applied to Syria too where Aleppo was turned to a horror show thanks to the "Assad must go and ISIS must win" loons. All that's small change compared with the same stupidity playing out in Ukraine and now into Poland and the Baltics etc. Some "tough" [in their own tiny mind] military maniac will do a Vincennes panic strike when they imagine some incoming and shoot down not just an airliner but hundreds of millions of people and megamillions more in counter and counter counter launches. In an hour or so, it could all be laid to waste. While there would be some merit in Washington being cleared for natural flora and fauna to re-establish itself, there would be some drawbacks too. "Draining the swamp" could turn out to be quite literal, with Washington wetlands evaporated by megatons of radiation boiling them dry, and a lot more besides. 100 years from now, there could be lovely commemorations for WWI and WWIII, "Lest We Forget", "Never Again", blah blah blah.... just as there have been centennial commemorations of WWI even while WWIII is being launched.
