"Same solution they have all over the world ......a helluva lot fewer guns."

That is simplistic and ignorant. The same solution will not apply to every country. Demographics and historical background are not the same in every country. Switzerland comes to mind. Low, low crime and many many guns.
Then there is Israel. America is unique in its history and demographics.
Then there is the question of whether or not just reducing the number of guns would have the desired effect of reducing the number of murders using guns as the weapon. When you consider that most gun owners have several and many have ten or twenty just reducing the number would not seem to have much impact. Then there is the question as to who would give up possession of their guns. Criminals who are most often the perpetrators of gun murders are not likely to give up their weapon of choice. So your answer is not practical, reasonable or doable.
It is obvious you do not have a solution that is reasonable and well thought out. Which is exactly what I expected.
