Tim, decided to become a believer and bought in today. Seems like the price is good and the potential is there. I was swayed when I saw Sony buy 5% of NLV. They want a piece of the cable market too. Note, Sony will pay "about $25 for 7.5 million" NLV shares. At the moment, NLV trades at 19 13/16 + 1 5/8.

I read your link, but confess I didn't understand it. The comparison of 4 system types was clear enough, but I don't know which type or types HLIT offers.

Thanks for the advice,

Mark

Sony to make announcement on NextLevel on Monday

TOKYO, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news; 6758.T) said it will make an announcement on ongoing discussions with NextLevel Systems Inc (NYSE:NLV - news) later on Monday in New York.

A spokesman for the Japanese electronics powerhouse declined to comment on details of the announcement.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier on Monday that Sony would take a five percent stake in NextLevel, which makes advanced digital television set-top devices. The value of the investment was estimated at $188 million.

The report said Sony would pay about $25 apiece for 7.5 million shares of NextLevel so that it can distribute the U.S. company's set-top boxes throughout North America.
