jiggydo, it is interesting that you compare the dotcom fiasco to the current pot craze. The irrational exuberance aspects with pot are very similar to what we saw back in 2000 when companies went public with billion dollar market caps and soaring stock prices and many didn't even have a product. All they had was an unproven idea and no market study and some didn't even have a proper business plan. That situation was doomed to fail.

The problem now is that many companies and investors are rushing to get in on the marijuana gold rush in an industry that is just being formed. That isn't a problem but investors need to understand that there will be new regulations, new industry standards, a few market rationalizations along the way where the strongest companies will survive and the weak will disappear. There are already growing concerns about product purity related to fertilizers, pesticides, etc. that will probably need new Government standards and result in increased costs for growers.

We could be looking at the making of a new fiasco that will be known as potcom where many early investors will make a lot of money on paper at least and many who held on too long and didn't see the changing investment landscape will face ruinous losses.

On a more positive note, there will be a lot of opportunities for investors to make a lot of money if they don't let the irrational exuberance cloud their judgement.
