I don't get it. Who spoke of Asia as being a ghost town? Or is there a translation issue here I dont understand? I think its ok to air these opinions by the way. I believe it can lead to better understandings. I think you were quite right to observe the issues of crime in America. It has been appaling and you will note that it is one of the most prominent public issues of our time. But you might also note that one great source of our social ills has historically been imported from other countries, namely drugs. Asia is a large source of them.

If graft, and corruption are crimes, then I believe the crime rate must be about the same. I can find no veracity in the notion that America has a higher rate of "subtle" corruption. If littering and ignoring the ecology of the environment is a crime, then I think Asia may be way ahead in the crime rate.

But, I will say this. Asia has the most determined people in the world, willing and able to sacrifice much to achieve goals. And in the 15 years I have been coming here I have seen incredible improvements in all arenas of human endeavor. I believe I have witnessed history that will someday be told about in the way we speak of the renaissance today. I also believe that there is a golden age in Asia that began as a post colonial movement. I do not believe the current problems are a major setback. Someday it may be seen as the spur to accelerate the rise of Asia and the homogenization of a true world market. We will have other setbacks along the way. There are underlying principles in Eastern and Western societys that may never see full reconciliation. But then, they do not have to be reconciled. Simply respected.

I submit that attacks on Western money managers is inconsistant with the goals. I believe that funneling Western investment into developments of dubious worth is inconsistant also. I believe that money politics and official corruption also are inconsistant...whichever side of the Ocean they may be committed on. I also believe that my latter statements do not infringe on Eastern values.

Sincerely,
Stitch
