I have an Ameritrade account, too, but I also have a futures account at Gain Capital. It's a new account, and I'm just getting used to the trading platform and am only using the demo platform right now to paper trade. I don't even know what the commissions are yet, lol. I'm only here because my original futures account was sold to Gain while I was taking a 2-3 hiatus from the financial markets.

I should be using my Ameritrade account, but I'm embarrassed to admit that the Think or Swim platform was pretty overwhelming when I looked at it six years ago. I decided this week, actually, to give it another try. Part of the problem was and is the font size, but apparently that can be adjusted. It has soooo many bells and whistles, though, that I'm cringing at the thought of tackling it again. My older brain likes to keep things simple and straightforward and my eyes don't like hunting through a maze of icons.

This platform I'm using now, the one at Gain, is very straightforward. I can follow and chart the large SP contract just like the mini, so that is useful. It gives me multiple demo platforms and I will start paper trading gold on it pretty soon. I have no idea what the capital requirements are but must have enough money in the account to start with because I'm approved now for actual trading in the mini.

You mentioned gold being $33 per point. For some reason, I thought it was $100. Is yours a micro gold contract or the large?

The large SP is $250 a point but from my vantage point--my DOM--it looks like the volume in that contract is quite low compared to the mini.
