Hi Codfish23, SPX large contract liquidity?

I would love talk about the SPX futures... My impression is that there is no liquidity in the large contract

look at the the volume on the large SPX futures

cmegroup.com

the volume is only 202... non existent....

now compare the s and p mini

cmegroup.com

1.7 MILLION contracts traded....... when the SPX was trading between 100 and 200 from 1980 to 1985 the index was such a small number they had the Large SPX contract....

as the SPX moved up so dramatically in price it gave rise to the S&P 500 mini and for the past number of years I am pretty positive all the open interest is in the mini..

So I don't believe that the large contract even accurately tracks the prices as the bid and ask spread is large enough to drive a train through it.

... I have to run out the door but let us certainly talk more......

John
