1/20/2017 Contest update
Presidential inauguration week did not inaugurate much enthusiasm among biotech investors, with the Contest median and biotech indexes giving back much of their New Year gains.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 2.99% YTD (vs. up 7.91% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 3.14% YTD (vs. up 5.73% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 6.68% YTD (vs. up 9.92% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 3.20% YTD (vs. up 3.55% YTD a week ago).
The Contest Top Ten portfolios continued to be dominated by ARIA holders. JBOG’s portfolio, up 22.40% YTD, held on to the Contest lead, with TOMP’s portfolio, up 14.29% YTD, moving into second place and BIOMAV’s portfolio, up 12.37% YTD, taking third place .
At Friday's close, 34 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green (a drop of 10 from last week), with 24 beating the NBI and 14 still beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 2.59% and a median YTD gain of 1.20%, with 106 of the 195 picks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Have a safe and relaxing weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
