Motorola and American Power Conversion Enter Into World-Wide Power Protection Purchase Agreement

WEST KINGSTON, R.I., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- American Power Conversion (Nasdaq: APCC) (APC) today announced that Motorola and APC have entered into an agreement for world-wide purchases of uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs). This agreement allows Motorola's global operations to incorporate APC's reliable power protection and management products into their day-to-day network and system availability needs.

"Motorola looks for vendors that possess an expansive global presence as well as offer products that are compatible with a wide-range of Motorola's applications," said Jim Good of Motorola's Corporate Supply Management organization in Schaumburg, Illinois.

"APC is very pleased to offer Motorola's world-wide operations 'best-of- breed' power protection and management solutions," said David P. Vieau, APC's Vice President of Worldwide Business Development. "APC's extensive global reach provides Motorola offices with convenient access to reliable power protection products and services."

Interested Motorola operations will be able to purchase any of APC's power protection products, including surge suppressors, UPSs, and UPS accessories, through their existing resellers.

The program takes affect immediately.

American Power Conversion is a leader in the designing, manufacturing, and marketing of power protection equipment, including surge suppressors, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and power conditioning equipment and related software for computer and computer-related equipment. APC reported sales of $707 million for the year ended December 31, 1996. The company is headquartered in West Kingston, RI, and its products are distributed worldwide.
