We do give Israel a lot. I think Obama even approved $38 Billion over 10 years just for defense aid. Likely we are still feeling guilty about entering WWII late, I don't know. But we also give many countries aid and then use the influence to keep them from being aggressive towards Israel. But my point was in general we could choose to reading that foreign aid money here at home for domestic programs. I just think that the left and the right would both be against it but for different reasons.
