Ha ha that's a funny it reminds me of a joke.

A researcher working in a remote location in Africa wondered the same about the women, who would walk a few paces behind their husbands.

One day she couldn't contain herself anymore and asked them,

"Wow, do you actually respect and revere your husbands so much?"

One of the women surreptitiously whispered,

"Land mines"

Jokes apart, this behavior. Men as far as the earliest civilization goes have donned the roles of protectors and leaders.

Aside from women walking behind, you can also note older men taking the traffic side of the pedestrian side walk instead of the women they're with.

In North American Indian tradition the man always walked in front to ward off any danger. Protecting Wives and Children Personally I cannot walk on the inside while walking down the street. Nor when we used to go hiking did I let her be in front in unknown territory or where vision was limited.

Of course, in the present day that is unnecessary, but it's very difficult to shake off age old conditioning. It is done not out of disrespect. Prior to the 1950's men were expected to show they were guardians or family leaders. Chivalry so to speak.

How ever it does look as though he broke off from the conversation to get things moving. Leaving his wife with Barrack and Michelle. That would not have happened with us.

My sons still bear the same traits with their wives, because of watching as they grew up. We hold the door of the car to seat our wives before going to the drivers side to get in. We also pack in the groceries, offer our seats to older or pregnant women. Hold doors open even for younger females. It is simply respect for the opposite gender.
