I think most of the people who voted in Trump had no idea what he would do. Why? And that weakened our democracy.

I think it is important to try and get as many people in our society to get as educated as they possibly can. Every one of the successful countries on earth does everything in their power to get as many people educated is much as they can.

Europe, the Nordic countries, South Korea, Taiwan ,Japan and Iceland.

Most people are not educated very well simply because they have not had the opportunity, or do not understand the importance of it. Children are born in homes that value education generally go on to get college degrees. Children born in homes that do not value education generally do not going to get advanced degrees. It has nothing to do with genetic intellect, and everything to do with cultural emphasis.

The perfect example are the Jews who educate everyone.

I have told the story of the recent study that compared rich kids to poor kids. By the time the rich kid was two years old, the poor kid was operating at 18 months intellectually. By the time the rich kid was five years old the poor kid was operating at three years old. So what chance did the poor kid have when they entered kindergarten?

The studies were done at Stanford and Columbia and confirmed with MRIs. Then they went back to see what the variable was and it was simply the number of words spoken in the house. The more words spoken in the house the better it helps the child learn context and complexity.

The South, too often, has an anti-intellectual culture and we need to turn that around. Look at the South, they are more dependent on the social safety net than any part of the country and yet they consistently vote in Republicans whose primary job is to destroy the social safety net. So they're voting against their own best interest.

Why do you think they do that?

Thomas Frank wrote a book about that called: "What is wrong with Kansas"?
