Stratospheric warming is forecasted to be underway. Below is observed.



Now the forecast on a different style plot (in gold), which is expected to go from record cold in late December to record warm by early February. Things are churning. Through end of the month, cold east & warm west, which will ease. I see another doozy California storm next Wednesday (1-Feb). As for the polar vortex, things will churn until mid-Feb...gotta a keep an eye, since this is only a forecast.
