RESEARCH ALERT - Comverse Technology (NASDAQ:CMVT) Reuters, Monday, January 05, 1998 at 12:20 LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5 (Reuters) - Hambrecht & Quist LLC said it has started coverage of Comverse Technology with a buy rating based on its strong fundamentals in the telecommunications equipment sector. -- said Comverse has "substantial opportunities" to exceed estimates "in the top-line and bottom-line growth over the coming quarters." -- estimates the company will earn $0.44 a share on $157.2 million in revenue in the first quarter of 1998 and $2.00 a share on revenue of $690.3 million for the full year 1998. -- Comverse shares were up 2-5/8 at 41-1/8 by midday.
