Inconvenient? I don't think that's a real reason.

The real reason is that it would be the most insane waste of money perpetrated by Congress in my lifetime. It would be very expensive and utterly unnecessary.

I am reminded of how in the federal government you used to have to go through the exercise of a procurement request to buy a pad of flip chart paper. Spending a lot of money to guard against the potential of a little bit of misuse is dumb.

NC went through an exercise with the governor's race where the defeated incumbent turned over every rock and pebble to find questionable votes without success. Much better to spend a little money to make sure that sufficient procedures are in place to keep the voter rolls tidy.

There are lots of real threats out there that need those resources.
