The social research on this subject has been done in the US so it almost certainly is based on participation in Christian churches.

These studies, from my colleagues and me in Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, used data from the Nurses’ Health Study, a long-term study of approximately one hundred thousand nurses with data collected over several decades. The results confirm associations between religious-service attendance and health previously reported in the research literature.

It would be interesting to see if this holds for participation in other religions.
