Because Hillary was his opponent. In the past she might have been good on trade but not anymore (at least going by what she said, and all we had to go on was what each said), while at the same time she wanted to increase taxes, regulations, and government interference in general, and would be extremely problematic on judicial appointments. Scalia's was a factor for me in terms of actually voting for Trump vs voting for a third party candidate or sitting it out.
