Others here might be interested in what happened with your Acronis clone.

After Windows shutdown to do the clone, the Acronis bootloader didn't start and all you got was a black screen with a flashing cursor.

Then you called me and I told you to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete and after the computer tried to reboot it went back to the black screen with a flashing cursor.

Then you removed the external SSD and pressed Ctrl+Alt+Delete again, but this time the Acronis bootloader started and I told you to plug the SSD back in and Acronis began doing the clone normally.

Pretty sure this was all because of the Dell bios. When I cloned my mom's hard-drive to an SSD for her Dell, I connected the SSD internally, so I didn't run into that problem.

Something else to mention, is I used the same SSD by Western Digital with the same external adapter/case cloning my daughter's OS hard-drive and the black screen and flashing cursor didn't occur, but she has a fairly new ASRock motherboard.

Hopefully someone else knows more about why your Dell computer behaved as it did, but we may have stumbled across a nifty trick. :)

Josh
