Smuckers bought a peanut butter company too.
Here in Wisconsin I grew up 3 miles north of Johsonville - where Johsonville Brats and sausage was started by a private family.

They joined powers with Sarah Lee for mutual distribution points. Johnson ville Brats gave them some ownership to be included within their logistics - including foreign points.

That was like a blow torch to their growth.

They now buy so much pork here in the midwest that they had to build a second plant in Montana.

Raising hogs can get plenty smelly in the summer and Montana is not as populated as Wisconsin and there are some large hog farmers out there.

I knew the plant manager as he was going out there during construction.

It takes embracing debt and getting BIG to make that step.

Not saying AMNF should do that, but there is a case study of how to do it and still retain private ownership.

My wife is 24 karat Italian and we eat a lot of pasta with her home made sauce that her family calls "Gravy".

Last night we had Tortelinis on her homemade sauce on top of spaghetti squash. The brand we bought was Buitoni - which just so happens to be a brand owned by Nestle's.

So there's the logistics for a national expansion / partnership!!
