2/3/2017 Contest update Biotechs had a decent week as the threat of drug price controls receded somewhat. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 5.31% YTD (vs. up 2.63% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 6.86% YTD (vs. up 3.50% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 11.49% YTD (vs. up 7.19% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 5.27% YTD (vs. up 5.16% YTD a week ago). We have a new Contest leader as TUCK’s portfolio, up 26.24% YTD, moved into first place being helped by CARA’s 20% gain for the week. JBOG’s portfolio, up 22.44% YTD, dropped to second place, with FILO’s portfolio, up 19.55% YTD, boosted to third place by both CARA and MNTA. At Friday's close, 40 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 21 still beating the NBI and 12 beating the SPSIBI. The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 5.37% and a median YTD gain of 2.54%, with 111 of the 195 picks up for the year. Below is the Top Ten list.
