(1) Imperial: This means having to do with an "empire". An empire is a group of nations ruled by a " emperor, empress, or other powerful sovereign or government". In this case, the government are the globalists / new world order whose members are the various elite of all major political parties, the ones who were horrified by Brexit and Trump. Or NATO if you prefer.
That's not a very coherent point. For now I'll simply say NATO in no way resembles and empire. If you could clarify I might have more.
(2) Defensive: EVERY modern alliance is said to be "defensive". This includes the Warsaw Pact which was a "collective defense treaty". Let's review the history.
The precursor to the Warsaw Pact began when Czechoslovakia, afraid of a rearmed West Germany, sought a security pact with East Germany and Poland. After West Germany was rearmed, the Warsaw Pact was created. In 1954, the USSR asked to have Germany reunited and the USSR to join NATO with all four occupying powers withdrawing from Germany. The other occupying powers, US, UK and France, refused the offer. The Warsaw Pact was created a few days after NATO added West Germany as a member.
The Warsaw pact was in some ways an empire. Nations were forced in to it, and the USSR, while not in day to day control over the other countries, did exert a good deal of control over them, and multiple times intervened militarily to keep them in line.
Being a member of NATO makes them feel more powerful and more likely to treat the Russians badly.
Somewhat questionable both in terms of accuracy and in terms of relevance.
It was part of the Russian Empire for hundreds of years. After the Russian Empire broke up in roughly 1918,
India was part of the British empire for a long time too. That doesn't change the fact that both India and Ukraine are legitimately independent countries. In the case of Ukraine, Russia's obligations to respect its territorial integrity go beyond the norm, because Russia specifically promised to do so in exchange for the Ukraine giving up its nukes. That territorial integrity includes Crimea.
Russia took back Crimea which is by far majority Russian ethnicity.
Because the Russian empire, then later to an even greater extent the USSR pushed out others and settled many Russians there. Also see the last paragraph.
Do you really think having Ukraine join NATO is a great idea?
I never suggested any such thing. I said doing so wouldn't be imperial and it wasn't aggression. I didn't say it was wise or safe. Its even less so now, in the context of territorial disputes (Crimea) and low level war between Russia and Ukraine (Donbass) |
