Yes of course, but that was not my point. My point was that he was going back to that period of time for an expert opinion on natural rights and legal rights.

In fact those countries you bring up did exactly what we have not done i.e. they have moved on. They have left their founding fathers ideas because they were primitive and they have formed new societies based on modern social science and a modern understanding of humanity.

In our country the South which seems to want to stay in the 1600s, refuses to allow the country to progress and consequently we are 20 years behind the rest of the Western democracies in humanitarian civilization and social structure.

Look at how we match up to the other Western civilizations. We are the only country that still has the death penalty for God sakes. We put more people in prison than all the rest of them combined. We hassle the gays more than any other Western democracy. And we are about to ban abortion.

Our healthcare is the most expensive of all the Western democracies with the least percentage of people having adequate healthcare and our educational systems are prohibitively expensive for the poor. In Denmark they have categorical free health insurance and education. In fact that is true in most of the Nordic countries and much of Europe.

And look at who's been in control of our Congress and the executive for the last 60 years. It's been controlled by the South because the Republicans went to the South after the 64 Civil Rights Act and told them if they became Republicans they wouldn't enforce the 64 Civil Rights Act any more than they had to.

And then the Republicans busted their unions and put the entire South into a state of abject poverty and yet the people still continue to vote for them.

And it blows my liberal mind to the point where I want to set my hair on fire.

Why do they continue to vote for people who hurt them?

<<Thomas Jefferson had slaves!

So did Norway and the Danish and those are countries many Democratic Socialists want to emulate...right?
