I agree. I also think the article has a point, though. The political correctness practiced in our country today is a form of censorship. I have to admit there have been times that I don't know how to say what I want to say without fear of inadvertently insulting some constituent that I may not even be aware of. So I go silent instead. It's infuriating. It's also a product of this idea that we have to be so careful with each other, because we're all made out of fine china. That's not healthy. We need to raise our kids to take a verbal punch with equanimity. Words are nothing more than air pushed through your larynx, after all. A healthy society needs to be able to express all kinds of opinions, even if they are sometimes offensive to some group of people. Sharing of ideas is the way we evolve to find the best ideas and grow as a society. We have to hear and understand the worst ideas, and then reject them, to find the better and best ideas, we want to absorb and espouse.

Having said that, I don't think there is a need to be insulting to get your point across. However, I think we're going to have to do away with safe spaces and this idea that there are trigger words and other such non-sense and teach out kids to be tough minded and verbally agile, while also teaching them tolerance and educating them with our history books. That way they can handle debate and dissent and help our country grow. We're too careful and I think political correctness has become a straight jacket, which created the fertile ground that produced the election outcome we just got.
