Push has come to shove again in eastern Ukraine, with a rebel commander being assassinated. The USA has apparently NOT told Ukraine to pull their heads in and prepare for a settlement with Crimea remaining in Russia having chosen independence from Ukraine just as Scotland and Quebec might choose independence from England and Canada and Scotland might choose to stay in the EU and Crimea has chosen to stay in the Russian political system.

<< From what I see from Trump and Putin neither of them are willing to push the other right now. >>

If we take Trump's UN ambassador at her word, the same demands as made by Obama are being made = give back Crimea or else. Just as we should take Iran at their word regarding the elimination of Israel, and Palestinian ideologues at their word that Israel is to be obliterated, it's reasonable to take the USA at their word that Crimea is to be owned by Ukraine.

It's a bit like USA dictating to Scotland that they shall bloody well stay in the United Kingdom, or else - weapons and uncivil war. One could ask why it's the business of the USA which political system Crimea wishes to join, if any.

Perhaps I'm being alarmist. I prefer to think of it as attention to boundary conditions, first principles and causal effects in the realm of human nature. It's better to pay attention to the likely end game instead of being surprised when the obvious happens.

There's not really any negotiation needed regarding Ukraine. Trump just has to accept Crimea as part of Russia and stop promoting carnage in eastern Ukraine as started by F-bomb Nuland and co.
