My view is that the so-called "War on Poverty" which has blown some $22 Trillion has created a race of slaves that is in many ways worse off than some of the slaves from the pre Civil War era in this country.

Your "view" complete nonsense. You need to study more instead of imbibing that Gone with the Wind southern propaganda. Cf for example:
amazon.com
or
pbs.org
The latter is a video, maybe that is better for your attention span.

People who are forced to depend on government checks, who see drug dependence as a preferable position in life than rugged individualism.

You believe that corporate America embodies "rugged individualism"? Yeah, right.

Not that I am defending either govt or drug dependency. But neither would I call living on inheritances "rugged individualism". Or blowing up mountains to get at coal seams while leaving streams and soil polluted as a consequence. Or ripping off Medicare or insurance companies (that refers to a few docs as well as to a few trial lawyers and their clients). Or insurance companies ripping off their clients. Or executives getting compliant BoDs to give them ridiculous bonuses despite the fact that most of the time individual company performance has more to do with macroeconomic and individual sector issues than company specific issues. This list could obviously be multiplied many times.
