The important environmental laws were passed in the 1970's and will remain on the books. Each state has an environmental department which can handle enforcement.

Cutting staff 50% isn't enough. The next Democrat in the White House can erase all the good things done with a flourish of a pen. Abolishing the agency would mean they need an enabling act from Congress to bring the EPA back.

Republicans are nowhere near conservative enough. With both houses of Congress and the WH in Republican hands, this is a rare opportunity to permanently shrink government. Not just for four years.
