No one ever needed a baloney detector more than Sagan, as he salt on Nightline predicting a "nuclear winter" after saddam set the Kuwaiti oilfields afire. There would be a famine, perhaps lasting many years. The Persian Gulf would be poisoned and all marine life would cease. It was going to be terrible.

Baloney, indeed.
