humble carl: I have not seen your posts lately. I am in total agreement with you. My returns are also very similar to yours as I too have heavy weightage of Intel-related items in my portfolio. While I had a small negative return in 1997, I still am profitable over years. Sometimes it is depressing to see a negative return in portfolio in 1997 while NASDAQ is up about 22% in 1997. I wish I had put some money in AMAT also. Instead I have my funds in Telecom stocks WCOM/MCIC/QWST- also profitable. I hope to see better returns in 1998 with INTC picking up and the consummation of MCI-WCOM merger in the third quarter. I still do not comprehend which strategy is better? To sell at $ 102 price and pay huge taxes or to hold INTC carrying huge paper losses, paying margin interest and going thru. with lot of mental tension is the question. I do not know the answer. I have faced this situation a few times before. I could never predict the top or bottom of this volatile stock. I ended up finally in holding and not selling. I look forward your posts as I follow similar strategy. Thank you and wish you prosperous new year.
