2/10/2017 Contest update
Distracted by so-called judges, the tweeter-in-chief neglected to harangue drug companies. Responding to a fatwa-free week, biotech stocks provided investors extra cash for an Ivanka-less shopping spree at Nordstrom.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 9.39% YTD (vs. up 5.31% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 7.34% YTD (vs. up 6.86% YTD a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI) was up 12.74% YTD (vs. up 11.49% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 6.52% YTD (vs. up 5.27% YTD a week ago).
TUCK’s portfolio, up 23.34% YTD, lost a bit of ground but remained in first place. JBOG’s portfolio, up 23.20% YTD, was a smidgen behind in second place, with BIOMAV’s portfolio, up 22.47% YTD, moving into third place.
At Friday's close, 38 of the 48 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 26 beating the NBI and 17 beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an average YTD gain of 8.14% and a median YTD gain of 4.09%, with 114 of the 195 picks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy your pre-Valentine’s Day weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
